Plein air on the Isle of Wight
Following, you'll see some of my photos and paintings from the trip - painting in woodland, in harbours, on beaches. They're mostly painted on a 12 x 16inch canvas board, with a smaller set on 10x10cm canvas panels, perfect for a small space or gallery wall. If you're interested in purchasing any of the paintings, do visit my shop for availability. First off, we visited St Helens Duver at Bembridge. Here's my painting in situ. Painting outside comes with a good few challenges - here the changing tide which came fully in during the course of the painting.
We were desperate to paint down on Whitecliff Bay where we were staying. It sounds easier than it was - involving careful control of a heavy, wheeled rucksack down a very steep path... and then dragging it back up again afterwards, but it was totally worth it! We swam in the sea and then painted in our togs while drying off. That's wellness right there.
A few more paintings from warm summer days...the evening sun shining on the far fields, a loose colourful sunset and a boats tethered in Yarmouth marina.
The ultra marine and phthalo blue were often close at hand, painting the clear blue skies and inviting waters. Here are a few paintings in blue tones. St Helen's Duver at Bembridge, hot sun and a keen wind - this was our first day painting, adjusting to the bright sunshine and glare. The Fisherman's Wharf at Bembridge, where we eagerly awaited a delicious crab lunch at The Best Dressed Crab (the blue building in the painting!). Yarmouth Mill, a stunning view here at Yarmouth harbour of the old tidal mill.
Thanks so much for looking!
