After creating my latest work – the extension of my rain paintings – I wanted to continue to explore my portrait painting, remaining curious in my brush work and representation of characterisation. Therefore I decided to embark on the 100 heads challenge. It’s supposed to be a daily painting project but as a working mother, I need to honour my commitments. I’ll therefore be painting when I can, aiming at two paintings a week, starting from January 2024.

The 100 portraits

Each painting is oil on primed paper or canvas sheet. I’m not always looking for a an exact copy of the portrait, sometimes looking to shake up the representation with blur, or layering, or unusual colourisation. I want to learn through these pieces, and stay curious about my application of paint.
